Bio - Long Form
Cicada Theory, first formed in 2021, is an alternative rock project based out of the DMV. Delivering powerful, emotive vocals and elusive yet potent lyrics, the band strives to create a unique sound while also paying tribute to prior voices of the 1990s. Cicada Theory’s sound has elements of indie and jangle rock, as well as some grunge influences, focusing on angsty guitar riffs but also strong melodies. Claire's ethereal voice layers on top of crisp guitars, and the quiet verses contrast to hard hitting and heavy choruses.
Claire originally started the project in Philadelphia. Cicada Theory released its first single, “Haiku,” on August 27, 2021 and became active playing shows in the local DIY scene of Philadelphia. Eventually, Claire returned home to Maryland to continue developing the project, and Cicada Theory continued to write and record. Much of the lyrical content of the songs is drawn from personal experiences of growing up as an isolated homeschooler. She hopes to connect with people who may relate to some of these themes, and to help create a safe space to normalize conversations about trauma and mental health.
In April 2023, Cicada Theory joined Berlin, Germany-based alt rock group Cora Line (now known as Nava Calma) on their first US tour and played venues such as Arlene's Grocery in NYC.
Cicada Theory recently released a second single “ghost” on October 25, 2024. The band is currently in the process of recording the remainder of the songs for their first EP, Coffee on the Walls, and is also currently working on booking a tour for late spring 2026.
